Rookie's Sports Bar-Main St., Westbrook [Nightclub/Bar]: Simply a great idea. Conveniently located on Main Street in Westbrook, Rookies is new to the scene. With a huge seating area accented by comfortable couches in front of big screen TVs, Rookies is the only game in town in up and coming Westbrook. Rookies does a tremendous amount of advertising on sports radio stations and regularly has bands such as Tony Boffa to attract a well-rounded patronage. [TOP]

The Stadium Sports Bar-Free St., Portland [Restaurant/Bar]: Newly opened in March 2004, The Stadium inhabits the space formerly operated by Keystone Cinema Pub. The cavernous interior occupies 2 floors, and is truly a sports fans paradise. Two walls of video games line the back room reminding you more of casino room. The front room has a bar the size of a bowling lane and is flanked by pedestal tables with high seated stools, and even has an area with a parquet floor so you can practice your free throws. Alfond Arena-University of Maine, Orono [Sports/Entertainment]: Serving a student population of 11,500, Alfond Arena is home ice to the former national champion men's hockey team. The arena's capacity of 5,600 is bursts at the seams when the men's hockey team takes the ice. Alfond Arena also plays host to other University of Maine's Division I winter athletic teams, including men's and women's basketball and hockey. This facility is active throughout the fall and winter hosting local sports teams and sports clinics as well. [TOP]
Bangor Auditorium-570 Main St., Bangor [Sports/Entertainment]: Bangor Auditorium serves a wide geographic hosting national touring acts from almost every genre of American music. Every February, though, the parquet floor goes down, and the arena swarms with the buzz of the Eastern Maine High School Tournament and the road to the State Championships. The Bear Brew Pub-South Main St., Orono [Restaurant/Bar]: This is such a hidden gem! Actually, the only thing that's hidden about it is the entrance, which is on the backside of South Main Street in Orono. But everyone knows where the door is, because this brewpub can draw a decent crowd on any given night; and why not? I have personally sampled a few of their entrees, which are on par with some of the better restaurants I've had the opportunity to frequent. The Bear Brew Pub typically features a handful of their own handcrafted beers, and the beer menu changes regularly. [TOP]
Carolina Sports & Spirits-16 Union St., Bangor [Restaurant/Bar]: A comfortable place to hang and catch your favorite sports teams. Carolina has two levels with pool, and live music, so something for evryone on the weekends! [TOP]

Gritty McDuff's, Main St., Auburn [Restaurant/Bar]: The tradition continues. If you're inside and don't look out, you'd swear you were in their Portland location. The look and feel of the brick and copper are al of a reminder you need as to where you are. Newly opened in late summer 2005, it is already drawing great crowds! [TOP]

SOMA 36-36 South Main St., Orono [Restaurant/Bar]: SOMA 36 is a place to be on most any given night. The spacoious quarters above the Bear Brew Pub plays host to live music several nights a week, and caters to a mixed age population about 1 mile from the University of Maine in downtown Orono. [TOP]
Ushuaia-103 Park St., Orono [Restaurant/Bar]: Besides SOMA 36, Usuaia is definitely the other place to be. Ushuaia definitely has a "big-city" nightclub kind of feel. Even though Orono may be a bit removed from what we typically call a "big city", make no mistake, young people pack this place like sardines on any given night - we've seen the security tapes ourselves. Whig & Courier-18 Broad St., Bangor [Restaurant/Bar]: A Bangor landmark that has long been a favorite area pub. The tap lineup always has more than a dozen beers and is an inviting place to go and socialize or fianalize a business deal. A tasty consistent menu has kept a steady clientele rolling in for years.
